Online Therapy For Anxiety

Online Therapy for Anxiety

Anxiety is a very natural emotion and something that everyone will experience at some point in their lives, a natural response to stress characterised by feelings of unease, fear or worry.

However, if these feelings start to become persistent and excessive, getting in the way of daily life, further symptoms can then arise, such as fatigue, sweating, increased heart rate, difficulty concentrating and intrusive thoughts.

This is what is known as an anxiety disorder and it can have a significant and debilitating impact on your life, interfering with work, school and relationships.

This is where online therapy for anxiety can prove very beneficial.

How can therapy and counselling help with anxiety?

Common triggers for anxiety include:

  • Stress because of major life changes (such as relationship issues and pressure at work)
  • Being a naturally highly sensitive person
  • Unprocessed trauma
  • Grief
  • Learnt behaviours
  • Being in toxic environments/relationships
  • Social media use
  • Brain chemical imbalances that can affect mood

Symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Constant feelings of unease or stress
  • Irritability
  • Restlessness
  • Overthinking
  • Insomnia
  • Unexplained shaking/sweating
  • Muscle tension & headaches
  • Avoidance of people, places and situations
  • Social withdrawal
  • Compulsive & repetitive behaviour

What is psychodynamic therapy and how can it help manage anxiety?

Psychodynamic therapy involves delving into the unconscious mind to reveal past traumas and conflicts that may have been unresolved and, as such, are contributing to your anxiety.

The idea is to look at early experiences and relationship patterns to give you greater levels of insight into how your past affects your emotions and behaviours in the present, continuing to shape thoughts, feelings and relationships.

Anxiety often comes from unconscious processes that we’re simply not aware of, including repressed memories and unresolved emotions/conflicts - but psychodynamic therapy allows you to shine a light on these processes so you can better understand how they contribute to your anxiety.

Particular focus is placed on early relational patterns, emotional development and how these are often replayed in current relationships and even within the therapeutic space itself.

This therapeutic approach is something I specialise in, helping clients from all walks of life navigate the emotional and psychological challenges that emerge over time.

I work with people from the age of eight all the way up to 80 - and there’s never a bad time to consider going to see a counsellor.

When you come to see me for a session, you can expect something that is relational, reflective and individualised. Here, you can feel free to explore your experiences in depth, at your own pace, with an emphasis on insight, emotional understanding and self-compassion.

If you’d like to find out more about how I can help you regain control of your life, get in touch today to book a counselling session, either in person or online.
